We are currently in the final planning stages for the annual Aberdeen Leadership in Product Development Summit (September 28-29 at Westin Copley in Boston). This year’s event will focus on “innovation strategies for a jobless recovery” (even though we already know that this isn’t a “jobless” recovery, but a “hireless” recovery). For those of you

I had the opportunity to speak with David Priemer (@dprimer) from Rypple’s product and community team earlier today. If you haven’t had the opportunity to check this product out yet, I’d highly recommend that you do. In a nutshell – it allows you to micro-survey (he told me they hate that word over at Rypple)

Historically, much of the discussion that I’ve seen about transparency (particularly in an enterprise web 2.0 sense) centered around the notions of risk vs. the relative benefits. However, in a recent blog post, Chris Anderson (of Long Tail and Wired fame) discussed the energy and effort it takes to be transparent: Perhaps most people can

Salesforce.com is running a contest to help name its new small business edition. Perhaps they should just go ahead and call it the “Small And Growing Enterprise” Edition…

One of my colleagues here at Aberdeen, John Lovett, is doing some interesting work on the online customer experience. He recently published on report on website search (available for free download for a limited time). I think one of the most interesting things to come out of the report was the notion of “searchandising”, or

Since our daughter was born about 5 months ago, my wife has been looking for a local Mother’s group to join. She’s tried a few in other towns, but it just hasn’t worked out for one reason or another. My wife has talked about forming her own group, but didn’t want to commit to being

After a long wait, 37 Signals (makers of the venerable project management/collaboration tool — Basecamp) recently launched a new contact manager called Highrise. Although, I think there is room for a lightweight software-as-a-service (SaaS) contact manager, I am not quite convinced on this one yet. Although it offers basic contact tracking, tasks and a nice

Commentary in yesterday’s WSJ BreakingView’s section (hard copy, not available online) suggested that “Google is making some of the same mistakes that doomed scruffy start-up Napster nearly a decade ago”. Apparently, according to the authors, “Google has used its position as the Internet’s 800-pound Gorilla to take a hard line in negotiations with the television

Pete, author of Share Tactics, sent me an article from the NYT suggesting that “The Magic is in the Tweaking” when it comes to developing new products and services. The premise of the article is that “companies reach success by discovering different uses for their original technology, changing their sales philosophy or repositioning a product,

Andrew,
Despite its apparent shortcomings, Ron Mcdaniel suggests a specialized use for the free version of Highrise — an advocate database:

Thanks Pete,
In my original post, I alluded to using it a job hunting tool. There are probably hundreds of uses. Over time, I think a ton of this stuff will start to shakeout (just like with basecamp). If anyone else has any ideas, I’d love to hear them.
